My Approach

My practice Unearthing Choice Counseling is centered around the idea that people are not inherently broken, they are living the best way they know-how. My goal is to help people open up their choices for a different approach to living a full life. My hope is to help guide people towards a functional way of living that increases enrichment, a sense of accomplishment, and identity.

I feel that everyone deserves the chance to function as their own advocate and my role is to help facilitate that opportunity with an individualized approach. I assist individuals and couples in reconnecting with themselves in meaningful and sustainable ways. The majority of my work is centered around empowerment and helping deepen clients’ understanding of their experience by providing 'the why and how' that is often missing. We will work together to cultivate a space to redefine terms that have largely been used to produce a sense of shame in each of us.

I approach therapeutic work from a humanistic orientation that integrates multiple counseling theories and modalities. My work may incorporate theory and techniques primarily from person-centered, Internal Family Systems, and Psychodynamic theory but may use techniques from somatic, narrative therapies, Trauma-Informed Yoga, Integrative Gestalt, etc. These person-centered approaches utilize your individual strengths. The goal is to maximize your ability to build self-efficacy by gaining a deeper understanding of your motivations, behaviors, and your social environment. Along with the therapeutic modalities I’ve listed, humor and free expression are also very important components of the work that I do. Sessions can feel like emotional heavy lifting at times and having the opportunity to laugh and joke can help bring balance. Similarly, processing and healing can happen through movement, art, music, and other creative avenues.

I believe it is essential to understand the context of people’s lives in every aspect. My role is to collaborate with you to understand the struggles you face and how you can make the changes you desire to live a full life. We will work together to open up your choices, promote greater self-awareness, and sustainable outcomes that work holistically. The goal is to have a full circle of connection to your mind, body, emotions, spirit, and social environment.

If you are struggling with your identity or are feeling stuck in certain patterns that are no longer working; I can help you by challenging long-held detrimental beliefs, digging into your strengths, and shedding light on areas of growth. Your truth is your own and my job is to help empower you by working alongside you as you cultivate the life you deserve.

About Me

Atsede (At-Said-Uh) Scarseth

COUNSELOR, MA, LPC, NCC, CYT-200, CIGT, TCYM

Pronouns: She/Her

Originally from New York, I’ve lived in Colorado for 9 years. I completed my Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Coach, and Certified Yoga Teacher. My neurodivergence (Gifted, AuDHD), various life experiences, and unique worldview allow me to meet people where they are authentically. I enjoy music, nature, and intuitive movement as each one holds a significant place in my life and informs how I interact and connect with those around me. I spent much of my early years confused, overwhelmed, and anxious despite my ability to “successfully” navigate the majority of situations I was presented with. My journey to understanding my needs and how to take care of myself included a holistic approach involving my mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. I like to balance evidence-based therapeutic modalities and spiritually aligned practices (yoga, psychedelic work, intuitive practices, etc.). I also enjoy traveling and experiencing different ways of living which hosting retreats allows me to do while giving back to the communities I’m sharing space with.

Modalities

Parts Work - Internal Family Systems

Parts Work, also known as Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as composed of various parts, each with its own unique thoughts, feelings, and motivations. Parts Work is grounded in the belief that these parts develop as a way to protect the individual and cope with life's challenges. he goal is to facilitate communication and harmony among the parts, promoting integration and balance within the person's internal system. The therapeutic process involves fostering a compassionate and curious stance toward each part, understanding their roles, and addressing any conflicts or imbalances within the internal system. By working collaboratively with the therapist, individuals can develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and integration, leading to improved emotional regulation and well-being.

Integrative Gestalt

Gestalt Therapy is a somatically-oriented, experiential therapy deeply rooted in Humanistic and Existential psychology that has significantly influenced and shaped many contemporary forms of psychotherapy. Developed by Fritz and Laura Perls, Gestalt Therapy draws wisdom from many traditions including psychoanalysis, Jungian psychology, existential philosophy, Zen Buddhism, and theater improvisation.

Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach to wellness that integrates the principles of yoga with modern therapeutic techniques. It involves using yoga practices such as postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, and relaxation techniques to address specific physical, mental, or emotional health concerns. Unlike a typical yoga class, yoga therapy sessions are tailored to the individual's needs, considering their unique abilities, limitations, and goals. The focus is on promoting self-awareness, enhancing mind-body connection, and fostering a sense of balance and well-being. Through a combination of gentle movements, breathwork, and mindfulness practices, yoga therapy aims to alleviate symptoms, reduce stress, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life.

Prepare/Enrich

With 40+ years of research, Prepare/Enrich has become one of the most trusted and effective relationship assessments. The ultimate goal is to help all couples be resilient so that in the face of life’s inevitable adversity, they can bend but never break.

Prepare/Enrich is a customized relationship assessment that identifies a couple’s strengths and growth areas, allowing them to focus on the areas that are crucial for growth within their unique relationship. While it is known as one of the most widely used tools for premarital counseling and education, it’s suitable for couples in all phases and stages of life.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while a medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes. I will provide referrals to the medical team or you might have your own referrals available.

Psychedelic (Ketamine) Integration Support

Psychedelic integration refers to the process of incorporating insights, experiences, and emotions gained from psychedelic experiences into one's daily life in a constructive and meaningful way. This process typically involves reflection, introspection, and sometimes professional guidance to help individuals understand and make sense of their psychedelic experiences. Integration can help individuals process challenging or profound experiences, integrate newfound perspectives, and make positive changes in their lives based on insights gained during the psychedelic journey. It often involves exploring themes such as personal growth, spirituality, relationships, and mental health. I provide services support services for Ketamine specifically.

Why do you go away? So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. ... Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.
